Fall 2011 Trends: Velvet

I got you, babe.

Roberto Cavalli

To borrow some phrasing from Rachel Zoe, velvet, it seems, is having a moment. We've always considered it one of the harder fabrics for the average person to pull off, at least in a full-body sense. We'll happily be proven wrong, however, because some of the following looks are absolutely gorge and we wouldn't mind at all living in a world where everyone got their Prince on in a small way. We really like the Proenza Schouler print velvets and were pleasantly surprised at how chic some of the Ralph Lauren looks are. There's a range of looks and apparently a range of ways to interpret velvet, from the '60s-inspired suits of Tory Burch and Marc Jacobs, to the drop-dead stunning gowns of Cavalli. Let's go virtual shopping, gals! Pick your favorites. Or are you sworn off the stuff forever?
